Yes, I said chocolate skittles. So, here’s the scoop starting with a little background.

I have a long night of working tonight so I took Andrew up to McDonald’s for a quick dinner and on the way home I stopped at the gas station to purchase an energy drink. I also decided I needed a chocolate fix, so I grabbed a small Dove heart laying at the counter. While I’m waiting for the cashier to give me my total, I’m checking out the other items on the counter. I look once, twice, it can’t be. Chocolate Skittles? I grab them. I hear the cashier give me total somewhere in the distance.

I say, “Chocolate Skittles? When did these come out?”

The cashier laughs and says, “About a month ago. We can’t keep them in stock.”

I have her add them to my total. Upon arriving home, a quick Google search reveals no approximate date of introduction, but I haven’t found anything more than a week old as far as other reviews. They aren’t even listed on the Skittles site yet nor on Mars (the company who makes them) nutritional info site.

Now, I can hardly wait to taste them, but somehow I found the strength to separate them all out on my computer desk and count how many of each there were.

My package contained:

10 Smores

9 Vanilla

14 Chocolate Pudding

12 Brownie Batter

9 Chocolate Caramel

The whole time I’m separating and counting, Andrew can hardly stand still, jumping up and down, saying, “Can I dig in yet?”

So finally, we’re ready to “dig in” and we taste one at a time. Andrew loved all of them. I liked them all pretty good, but I have to admit they aren’t something I’ll be craving in the middle of the night if you know what I mean. I found mixed reviews during my Google search.

Over at Candy Addict they were not impressed.

They liked it quite well over at this gaming forum.

Pick up a bag during your next shopping trip and let me know what you think.

My friends over on Twitter talk chocolate all the time. And it doesn’t seem to matter who starts the subject, once it’s mentioned it will go on for a long time. Let’s face it. We love chocolate! I personally try to have some type of chocolate every single day.

One day a month or two ago, Kelly McCausey mentioned that somebody should start a chocolate of the month club. It’s been weighing on my mind ever since. You see, I am a chocolate addict. I am obsessed with chocolate. When I worked at my last job (before coming home full time) I was a graphic designer at the local newspaper. It didn’t take long for the salespeople to learn to bring Shannon chocolate when they wanted to ask for the moon. They would offer dinner, pizza, whatever. I would say just bring me chocolate.

Slowly the idea for a chocolate podcast was born. I have put it off because I was thinking I was just being silly. Who really wanted a chocolate podcast? Meanwhile, Kelly keeps twittering about somebody starting a chocolate of the month club. So the other night I casually mention to my friend Annette Yen that I was playing with the idea of starting a chocolate podcast. I think I met somebody as obsessed as me because she was not going to let me let go of the idea.

Let’s Talk Chocolate was born.

If you have ideas or suggestions for future shows, please leave a comment. I would love to receive samples of the chocolate you sell and review them on my podcast. I’m currently waiting on some Bada Bing from My Little Taste of Italy that I won at a chat a couple weeks ago. I think it’s going to be my first on air review.
