  Chocolate Skittles

Yes, I said chocolate skittles. So, here’s the scoop starting with a little background.

I have a long night of working tonight so I took Andrew up to McDonald’s for a quick dinner and on the way home I stopped at the gas station to purchase an energy drink. I also decided I needed a chocolate fix, so I grabbed a small Dove heart laying at the counter. While I’m waiting for the cashier to give me my total, I’m checking out the other items on the counter. I look once, twice, it can’t be. Chocolate Skittles? I grab them. I hear the cashier give me total somewhere in the distance.

I say, “Chocolate Skittles? When did these come out?”

The cashier laughs and says, “About a month ago. We can’t keep them in stock.”

I have her add them to my total. Upon arriving home, a quick Google search reveals no approximate date of introduction, but I haven’t found anything more than a week old as far as other reviews. They aren’t even listed on the Skittles site yet nor on Mars (the company who makes them) nutritional info site.

Now, I can hardly wait to taste them, but somehow I found the strength to separate them all out on my computer desk and count how many of each there were.

My package contained:

  • 10 Smores
  • 9 Vanilla
  • 14 Chocolate Pudding
  • 12 Brownie Batter
  • 9 Chocolate Caramel

The whole time I’m separating and counting, Andrew can hardly stand still, jumping up and down, saying, “Can I dig in yet?”

So finally, we’re ready to “dig in” and we taste one at a time. Andrew loved all of them. I liked them all pretty good, but I have to admit they aren’t something I’ll be craving in the middle of the night if you know what I mean. I found mixed reviews during my Google search.

Over at Candy Addict they were not impressed.

They liked it quite well over at this gaming forum.

Pick up a bag during your next shopping trip and let me know what you think.

Not something I’ll run out and get, but I’m sure we’ll give them a try if we happen to see some.

I saw these in CVS a few days ago and just couldn’t imagine Chocolate skittles and I was actually afraid to purchase them. I like my skittles Fruity.. Thinking M&Ms have the small round chocolate goodies covered…lol

I have to agree with Annette when she says that they don’t sound appealing to her. They don’t sound too appealing but of course if I run into them at the store I’ll have to give them a try :-)

Ah yes, the enigma that is Chocolate Skittles, I picked some up from a Walgreens a few weeks ago and haven’t seen them really anywhere since (not like I’ve been desperately searching or anything :\)
Some skepticism is definitely warranted, but I rather enjoyed them, it’s CHOCOLATE people, it can’t hurt to give it a try.

I tried them and they were actually kind of nasty, but that’s my opinion. The best one to me was brownie batter, but it pretty much tasted like a tootsie roll.

I finally gave these chocolate skittles a whirl and well they were okay. Nothing to write home about.
